CONVERTIBLE TOP

Purpose

  • Rain or dust penetration into the cabin is prevented when closing the convertible top.

  • A convertible top with the following improvements has been adopted.

    • Operability

    • Operability has been improved to easily open/close the convertible top.

      Sound insulation

    • Sound insulation has been improved to provide quiet and comfortable driving without the effects of noise occurring from outside of the vehicle or wind noise occurring in the gap between the door glass and weatherstrip from wind blowing against the vehicle.

      Cleanability

    • Cleanability has been improved to prevent filter clogging of the drain cover which causes water penetration into the cabin when driving in the rain or washing the vehicle.

  • A convertible-top interlock open function has been adopted for the door glass to decrease the user operation and to eliminate the door glass open operation when the convertible top is opened/closed.

Function

Operability
  • Assist springs are installed to the convertible top and the spring force of the assist springs is used to achieve the following.

    • The convertible top is popped up when pulling the roof hook with the convertible top fully-open to facilitate access to the convertible-top handle when closing.

    • The necessary operation for closing the convertible top is assisted when closing the convertible top.

  • The operation for opening/closing the convertible top has been improved by reducing the track for opening/closing the convertible top and positioning the link so that the convertible top can move smoothly.

  • By setting a mechanism to the top lock to maintain a temporary securing position, it is possible to close the convertible top with one hand.

Sound insulation
  • A link weatherstrip with excellent sealing performance is located in the gap between the convertible top and window glass, preventing wind noise occurring in the gap between the door glass and weatherstrip from wind blowing against the vehicle while it is driven at high speeds.

  • By locating the inner fabric inside the convertible top to make a double structure, the thickness is formed and sound insulation has been improved. (With inner fabric)

Cleanability
  • Fallen leaves or dirt are easily removed with a built-in removable filter to improve cleanability.

Convertible-top interlock open function for door glass
  • The door glass is opened in conjunction with opening/closing of the convertible top. Refer to the [POWER WINDOW SYSTEM] for details. (See POWER WINDOW SYSTEM.)

  • The following has been achieved by opening the door glass in conjunction with opening/closing of the convertible top.

    • When opening/closing the convertible top, the link weatherstrip of the convertible top does not contact the door glass, thus the user does not have to open/close the door glass.

    • The bothersome operation of manually opening the door glass has been eliminated before opening/closing the convertible top.

Construction

  • The convertible top consists of the following parts:

    • Top lock

    • Top lock lever

    • Top lock cover

    • Lock release lever

    • Top lock striker

    • Roof hook

    • Roof hook lever

    • Top fabric

    • Inner fabric (With inner fabric)

    • Top handle

    • Header cover

    • Link weatherstrip No.1

    • Link weatherstrip No.2

    • Drain cover

    • Lock bracket

    • Header weatherstrip

    • Rear window glass (See GLASS/WINDOWS/MIRRORS.)

Assist spring
  • The assist springs located on the left and right of the convertible top transmit the spring force to the link, and reduces the operation force in the close direction.

Weatherstrip
  • A weatherstrip is located between the convertible top and door glass.

  • Both the inner and outer surfaces of the door glass are secured using a U-shaped insertion part on the link weatherstrip for the door glass to insert into, preventing wind noise occurring in the gap between the door glass and weatherstrip from wind blowing against the vehicle while it is driven at high speeds.

Drain cover
  • The drain cover is located inside the tire house trim.

  • The removable filter is integrated with the drain cover.

Operation

Operation from fully-closed position to fully-open position

NOTE:

  • The lock release lever secures/releases the top lock lever.

  • The convertible top open signal/convertible top close signal sent by the top lock switch and convertible top is used by the power window control module for controlling the convertible top interlock open operation. Refer to the [POWER WINDOW SYSTEM] for details. (See POWER WINDOW SYSTEM.)

1. When the top lock lever is pulled in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure while moving the lock release lever of the top lock lever in the direction of arrow (1), the top lock is released.

2. When the top lock is released from the top lock striker, the contact point of the top lock switch turns on (3).

3. When the contact point of the top lock switch turns on, a convertible top open signal (4) is sent to the power window control module.

4. When the top lock lever is pulled to the temporary securing position, the fulcrum point of the top lock rotates at the pivot fulcrum point of the top lock lever in the direction of arrow (5) shown in the figure. When the top lock is pulled out in the direction of arrow (6) shown in the figure, the top lock is pressed by the top lock lever to rotate in the direction of arrow (7).

5. When the top lock lever is pulled to the release position in the direction of arrow (8) shown in the figure, the top lock is further pressed by the top lock lever to rotate the top lock in the direction of arrow (9).

6. The convertible top is retracted (10) by moving the convertible top to the rear of the vehicle.

7. When link B rotates to the 94???104° position while the convertible top is retracted, the contact point of the convertible top switch turns on (11).

8. When the contact point of the convertible top switch turns on, a convertible top open signal (12) is sent to the power window control module.

9. When the convertible top is moved to the fully-open position, the top lock contacts the folded part of the roof hook, and the top lock and top lock lever return (13) to the temporary securing positions.

NOTE:

  • When the convertible top is closed, the top lock and top lock lever return to the temporary securing positions to achieve the following.

    • The operation of moving the top lock lever to the temporary securing position is eliminated.

    • When the convertible top is moved to the fully-closed position, it is possible to close the convertible top using one hand because the top lock is temporarily secured to the top lock striker.

10. When the convertible top is moved to the fully-open position and pressed against the vehicle, the roof hook slider and the top lock center of the top lock are engaged to secure (14) the convertible top.

Operation from fully-open position to fully-closed position
