FRONT UPPER ARM INSPECTION
2016 – MX-5 – Suspension
FRONT UPPER ARM INSPECTION
1. When working on the right side of the vehicle, remove the front suspension tower bar (RH). (With front suspension tower bar) (See FRONT SUSPENSION TOWER BAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
2. When working on the left side of the vehicle, remove the front suspension tower bar (LH). (With front suspension tower bar) (See FRONT SUSPENSION TOWER BAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Remove the front upper arm. (See FRONT UPPER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Inspect the front upper arm for bending or damage, and the front upper arm ball joint for excessive looseness.

If there is any malfunction, replace the front upper arm. (See FRONT UPPER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5. Rotate and shake the front upper arm ball joint 5 times.
6. Measure the front upper arm ball joint initial torque and rotational torque using an Allen wrench and a torque wrench.

11 N·m {112 kgf·cm, 97 in·lbf} max.

Front upper arm ball joint rotational torque

0.5—2.0 N·m {5.1—20 kgf·cm, 4.5—17 in·lbf}

If not within the specification, replace the front upper arm. (See FRONT UPPER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
