SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

Handling the side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) If the side air bag module is installed with debris in the seat back, the foreign material may be scattered when the side air bag module operates (deploys), causing injury. Verify that there is no foreign material in the seat back before installing the side air bag module.
1. Switch the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3. Remove the seat. (See SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Disconnect the connector as shown in the figure.
5. Remove the harness clip.
6. Move hook A in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and detach it from hook B.
7. Unzip the zippers.
8. Partially peel back the seat back trim in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.
9. Pull out the pin in the direction of the arrow (1) shown in the figure.
10. Press the tabs in the directions of the arrows (2) shown in the figure, pull the clip out in the direction of arrow (3), and remove the side air bag module securing belt from the seat back frame.
11. Remove the harness clip.
12. Remove the nuts.
13. Remove the side air bag module in the direction of the arrow.
14. Install in the reverse order of removal.
15. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
16. Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)].)
