BRIGHTNESS OF BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) WARNING LIGHT IS TOO BRIGHT OR TOO DARK [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) SYSTEM]

NOTE:

Description

  • The brightness level of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light is low in the daytime (headlights off) (correct level at night).

  • The brightness level of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warningr light is high at night (headlights on) (correct level in the daytime).

Possible malfunction

  • The blind spot monitoring control module (RH) cannot receive the TNS switch signal.

    • TNS switch (light switch) malfunction (stuck)

    • Instrument cluster malfunction

    • Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH) malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1

    VERIFY MALFUNCTION (TNS SIGNAL CONDITION)

  • Display the instrument cluster PID I_ILLUMI_M item using the M-MDS.

(See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].)

  • Is the PID On (Night) indicated when the light switch is in the TNS position?

Yes

Go to Step 3.

No

Go to the next step.

2

Yes

Perform the DTC inspection for the start stop unit, instrument cluster and the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.

(See DTC INSPECTION [START STOP UNIT].)

(See DTC INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].)

(See DTC INSPECTION [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE].)

No

Replace the light switch.

(See LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3

NOTE:

  • If the blind spot monitoring (BSM) indicator light was turned on by the simulation function, the blind spot monitoring (BSM) indicator light luminosity becomes 92%.

  • Does the PID value indicate 92% when the simulation item is turned on?

Yes

NOTE:

  • If the blind spot monitoring (BSM) system is operating normally, the luminosity of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) indicator light will change according to the light switch condition.

    • Light switch in TNS position: 70%

    • Light switch in position except TNS: 92%

Explain to the customer that the system is normal.

No

Replace the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH).

(See BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
