HEATED STEERING WHEEL SYSTEM

Purpose

• The heated steering wheel system warms the steering wheel by warming the heating wires built into the heated steering wheel units.

Functions

• The heated steering wheel system warms the steering wheel by the heat from the heated steering wheel unit heating wires.

• When the heated steering wheel system is operated for approx. 30 min, the voltage supplied to the heated steering wheel units is stopped by the timer in the heated steering wheel control unit and the heated steering wheel system operation is stopped.

Operation

1.When the heated steering wheel switch is turned on with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on), the climate control unit sends (1) a heated steering wheel system operation request signal to the heated steering wheel control unit.

2.When the heated steering wheel control unit receives the heated steering wheel system operation request signal from the climate control unit, the CPU built into the heated steering wheel control unit turns on (2) the FET.

3.When the FET turns on, voltage is supplied (3) to the heated steering wheel units and the heated steering wheel units warm.

Note

• When approx. 30 min have elapsed since the heated steering wheel timer was operated, the heated steering wheel control unit stops the heated steering wheel system operation.

HEATED STEERING WHEEL CONTROL UNIT

Purpose, Function

• The heated steering wheel control unit supplies voltage to the heating wires built into the heated steering wheel units.

• The heated steering wheel control unit detects the temperature around the heated steering wheel units by the thermistors built into them.

• The heated steering wheel control unit maintains a temperature of approx. 37 °C {99 °F} around the heated steering wheel units by intermittently suppling voltage to the heated steering wheel units according to the temperature detected by the thermistors.

• The heated steering wheel control unit is located in the steering wheel.

Operation

HEATED STEERING WHEEL UNIT

Purpose

• The heated steering wheel units warm the steering wheel.

Functions

• By sending voltage to the electric heating wires built into the heated steering wheel units from the heated steering wheel control unit, the electric heating wires warm up the steering wheel.

• If the heated steering wheel control unit detects that the temperature around the heated steering wheel units exceed the set value by the thermostats, voltage supplied to the heating wires is stopped.

Structure/Construction

• The heated steering wheel units are located in the steering wheel.

• The thermistors and thermostats are built into the heated steering wheel units.

Operation

HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH

Purpose, Function

• The driver can optionally choose to switch the heated steering wheel system to on or off.

Structure/Construction

• The heated steering wheel switch is integrated into the climate control unit.
