DRIVE SELECTION SYSTEM

Outline

• The drive selection system switches the vehicle’s drive mode.

• The system is useful in driving situations where high vehicle response to accelerator pedal operation is required such as when merging onto an expressway or accelerating to pass other vehicles.

Function

• The standard and sport modes are available in the drive selection system and they can be switched by operating the drive selection switch.

Operation

1.When sport mode is selected (1) using the drive selection switch, the Dash-Electrical Supply Unit sends a drive selection switch input information (2) to the BCM via CAN communication.

2.The PCM determines (3) the drive mode switching permit/hold based on each kind of information from the PCM, TCM, and the DSC, and sends the drive mode switching permit/hold signal (4) to the BCM via CAN communication.

3.When the BCM receives the select mode switch input information and the drive mode switching permit/hold signal, it determines the drive mode switching (5) based on it. At this time, the drive mode condition signal (6) sent to the PCM and TCM, and the indicator light illumination request signal (7) sent to the instrument cluster are sent via CAN communication.

4.After the PCM and TCM receive the drive mode condition signal, control change and shift point change are performed based on the accelerator opening angle.

5.When an indicator light illumination request signal is received, the instrument cluster turns on the select mode indicator (8).

• If any of the following conditions is met, the mode is not switched even if the drive selection switch is operated.

― During sudden maneuvering

― During ABS/DSC/TCS control

― Driving at constant speed using cruise control (With cruise control)

― Driving at constant speed using Mazda radar cruise control (With Mazda radar cruise control (MRCC))

― Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) is operating.

• If the drive selection switch is operated with a drive selection switching inhibition condition met, the PCM sends a select mode indicator light flash request signal to the instrument cluster.

• The instrument cluster flashes the select mode indication to notify the driver that drive selection is currently inhibited.

• If any of the following conditions is met while in sport mode, the sport mode is canceled.

― The ignition is switched off.

― Cruise control or MRCC is operating.

• Cruise control switch SET- is pressed (With cruise control)

• Cruise control switch SET- or SET+ is pressed (With Mazda radar cruise control (MRCC))

― A PCM control-related part is malfunctioning.

― A drive selection switch is malfunctioning.

DRIVE SELECTION SWITCH

Purpose/Function

• The drive selection switch performs the drive selection switching operation.

• The drive selection switch condition is detected by the Dash-Electrical Supply Unit and sent to the BCM.

Construction

• The drive selection switch is located on the shift panel.

• A toggle-type switch has been adopted for the drive selection switch.

Operation

1.When the drive selection switch is pressed to the [SPORT] side (front side), contact point SW1 of the drive selection switch closes (1), and contact point SW2 closes (2) when the switch is pressed to the [OFF] side (rear side).

2.The Dash-Electrical Supply Unit detects (3) the sport mode selection condition based on the open/close of contact points SW1 and SW2 of the drive selection switch.

3.The Dash-Electrical Supply Unit sends (4) the drive selection switch input information to the BCM.

SELECT MODE INDICATION

Purpose

• The select mode indication notifies the driver that the sport mode has been selected using the drive selection switch, or that switching of the drive selection is not possible.

Function

• The instrument cluster displays the select mode indication based on the select mode indication on request signal from the BCM.

• The instrument cluster flashes the select mode indication based on the select mode indication flash request signal from the BCM.

Construction

• The select mode indication is built into the instrument cluster.

Operation

1.The instrument cluster receives (1) a select mode indicator display or flash request signal from the BCM via CAN communication.

2.The instrument cluster displays/flashes (2) the select mode indicator on the LCD based on the select mode indicator display request signal or the select mode indicator flash request signal.
