Outline

Troubleshooting item

Frequent front wheel slip

Description
• Front wheels slip frequently during acceleration on low-friction road.
Possible cause
• Tire traction performance is extremely poor for given road friction. (i-ACTIV AWD system is normal.)
• Improper wheel alignment (i-ACTIV AWD system is normal.)
• Rear differential oil temperature is extremely high (Fail-safe condition)
• Differential oil temperature sensor malfunction (Fail-safe condition)
• Coupling component temperature is extremely high (Fail-safe condition)
• Coupling component temperature sensor malfunction (Fail-safe condition)
• Coupling component malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Warning
• During simulation driving, vehicle stability may decrease extremely and cause an accident. Be sure to perform the simulation test driving in a safe area.

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
VERIFY DSC HU/CM, PCM, TCM, EPS CONTROL MODULE AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) DTCs
• Verify DSC HU/CM, PCM, TCM, EPS control module and electrical supply unit (ESU) DTCs using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Are there any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to next step.
2
VERIFY TIRE AIR PRESSURE
• Inspect tire air pressure.
• Is it within specification?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Adjust tire air pressure, then go to next step.
3
COMPARE WITH SAME MODEL TIRES
• Install tires of the same model.
• Perform simulation driving.
• Does malfunction recur?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
i-ACTIV AWD system is normal.
4
COMPARE WITH SAME MODEL VEHICLE
• Install tires of malfunctioning vehicle to another same model vehicle.
• Perform simulation driving.
• Does malfunction recur?
Yes
i-ACTIV AWD system is normal.
No
Go to next step.
5
INSPECT AWD SOLENOID
• Inspect AWD solenoid. (See AWD SOLENOID INSPECTION.)
• Is AWD solenoid normal?
Yes
Inspect harness between AWD solenoid and electrical supply unit (ESU), then go to next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
6
INSPECT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
• Inspect wheel alignment. (See FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT [(US)].) (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT [(US)].)
• Is it normal?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Adjust wheel alignment.
Perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
Explain to the customer what has been repaired.
No
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
